Enterprise education specialists 2B Enterprising has created a partnership between Cardiff-based law firm, Capital Law and Ysgol Glan Morfa in Splott.
Capital Law is providing the funding for Ysgol Glan Morfa to receive 2B Enterprising’s The Bumbles of Honeywood education resources. The resources teach young children about enterprise, entrepreneurship, and essential life skills.
As part of the partnership, representatives from Capital Law will visit the school and help to deliver a series of lessons that teach children how to network and problem solve. They will also have the opportunity to support the school in other ways and develop a relationship with them throughout the year.
Headteacher of Ysgol Glan Morfa, Meilir Tomos comments: “I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to engage with a local business and learn new skills about business in quite a fun and engaging way.
“The world of business and entrepreneurship is an important element of our new curriculum, and this program is exactly what we need to cover these key areas.”
Capital Law got involved as a 2B Enterprising corporate partner because they could see the value of what was being offered and were particularly impressed that the resources were all available in the medium of Welsh.
Ffion Hopkins, Emerging Talent Lead at Capital Law, who attended the most recent Bumbles of Honeywood lesson at Ysgol Glan Morfa comments: “When we visited the school, the children were tasked with creating their own business cards and were then asked to introduce themselves to each other and the adults in the room using eye contact, confident voices and handshakes. It was great to see them learning softer skills and enjoying what they were doing.
“We are looking forward to sharing our knowledge of getting into business with the next generation of entrepreneurs.”
Jayne Brewer, CEO of 2B Enterprising adds: “It was great to see Welsh speaking members of the Capital Law team interacting with the children at Ysgol Glan Morfa and helping them grow in confidence.
“Our wide range of resources that includes lesson plans, worksheets and books is all available in Welsh. We have a Welsh speaking lesson delivery team that visit Welsh medium schools with their corporate partners. Our commitment to the Welsh language means that all future resources that are in development will also be available bi-lingually.”
Many schools across south Wales are already benefitting from The Bumbles of Honeywood programme but there are still a number of opportunities for corporate partners to get involved and work with local schools. As well as the clear CSR benefits that exist from being involved in the programme, many companies enjoy the school visits and the ongoing interaction with schools.
