The Cardiff Half Marathon is one of the UK’s biggest and best road races on an iconic course around Wales’ capital city and takes place on Sunday 5th October 2014. With training in full swing for all participants, there is no better time to consider joining Team Tenovus – helping raise much needed funds for their research and cancer support services.
Running for Tenovus offers huge benefits to both the charity and the runners. Knowing your run has raised money to help others, gives a huge boost to the satisfaction you’ll feel on the finishing line!
When you sign up in support you will receive a Tenovus running vest and first class support on the day. Along the run you will be greeted by the Tenovus Official Cheer Station along the Penarth Barrage at Mile 4 – our volunteer cheerers will be there to show their support and encourage you as you pass by.
Tenovus will also be managing the Official Hydration Station at the event.
Once you have completed the race there will be a chance to attend the Tenovus post race reception, attended by the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. Catering will be provided for yourself and your family, plus a well deserved leg massage will be offered by the wonderful therapists from The St. David’s Hotel and Spa.
Don’t run alone, join our team and make a real difference – plus don’t forget to invite friends and family to come and support the team at our Tenovus cheer station.
There is no minimum sponsorship requirement, we just simply ask for your support to raise as much money as you can.
Jayne’s Story
Jayne is running for her mum Denise, who passed away in 1999 from lung cancer. Her mum was Chair of her local Friends of Tenovus group and was fundraising up until shortly before she passed away.
“Mum started fundraising for Tenovus after her dad died of cancer. She decided she wanted to do something to make a difference and I remember lunches and events, all fundraising for Tenovus.
She even went to Aberystwyth University to see the Tenovus research there. I remember when she came back she was really impressed and told us all about what she and the rest of the group had helped to fund.
Then, sadly mum got cancer herself. When she was ill, I promised her that I would do something for Tenovus too. Back in 2006 I ran the Venice Marathon for Tenovus and have done lots of other races, but I have to say Cardiff is by far the best. My favourite part is running over the barrage and looking back across at Cardiff. For me, there’s something ‘right’ about running for Tenovus when you do the Cardiff Half. Their links to Cardiff as well as the rest of Wales are so strong. It just makes sense.”
