A sell-out crowd at St. David’s Hall saw Eighties pop duo Erasure roll back the years with a vintage performance to delight their adoring fans. Frontman and singer Andy Bell, as ever the showman, kept the crowd on their feet from the moment the first song, `Oh L`Amour` was blasted out, while keyboard player Vince Clark was coolness personified while he worked his pop magic. The set list was literally like a greatest hits album, with the decibel levels rising with each catchy number. The duo also played a collection of songs from their new album, ` The Violet Flame`, which didn`t disappoint in any way. The hall reached fever pitch with probably the group`s best known song, `A Little Respect`, with the following encore providing a suitable climax to what was a spectacular show.
Growing up in the Eighties, Erasure were one of those bands whose songs you inevitably knew as soon as you heard them. Over two decades on, time, thankfully has not diminished the quality of both the lyrics and Bell`s pitch perfect voice. Together with Clarke`s wizardry on the keyboard, the duo put on a performance that left the audience wanting more, and left me/us reminiscing about our long ago teenage years, and how great songs will always stand the test of time.
The show was full of glitz and glamour, who else could get away with tight sequin boxer shorts and tight shiny lycra trousers. The atmosphere at St David’s Hall also added to the excitement. No pun intended but we have total Respect and Admiration for Erasure. We hope they come back again very soon.
