Staff from Marks & Spencer stores in Cardiff and across the region have raised over £21,000 for Velindre Cancer Care following a weekend of fitness themed events.

10 members of the M&S Wales & West team, including nine store managers, took part in the 10k St David’s Day Run in Cardiff. Meanwhile, colleagues in 16 stores across the region also joined in the sponsored fitness fun, taking to treadmills, static bikes and cross trainers to help rack up the miles and the funds.

The funds raised will go to the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff which provides specialist cancer services to over 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond.

Simon Philips, M&S Cardiff Queen Street Store Manager, said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting such a wonderful local charity and to know the money we’ve raised will help to care for people in our community who are living with cancer.  The Velindre Cancer Centre is a fantastic resource, offering treatment, care and support. We’re very proud that so many of our stores have joined forces to raise funds for this very a deserving cause.”

Jennifer Elsworth, Fundraising Support Officer at Velindre, said: “We are so grateful for the phenomenal amount of money that has been raised, the efforts of the teams across the region has been outstanding. The money raised will really help us with supporting those battling cancer and their loved ones at a difficult time of their lives.”

In addition to the fitness fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre, M&S employees at Swansea, Fforestfach, Llanelli Parc Trostre and Haverfordwest have this month also been aiding their local community by using their Charity Volunteer Day to donate time at a soup kitchen for the homeless.
