ONE of Scotland’s most sublime and endearing voices is coming to St David’s Hall much to the delight of folk fans.
The award-winning Emily Smith will play in the intimate setting of the venue’s L3 Lounge on Tuesday 12 May in support of her fifth solo album Echoes
This latest collection of delicate songs is unmistakably influenced by her homeland, but Emily manages to unearth a personal connection in all her traditional music interpretations. Hence, she brings simple beauty to ballads like The Twa Sisters, King Orfeo and John O’Dreams.
Time has passed quickly since Emily was named BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year back in 2002. The accolades continued as she won the USA Songwriting Competition in 2005 and Scots Singer of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2008. Plus, she received two nominations in the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
