MAY offers another action-packed programme at St David’s Hall with a magnificent mix of retro and modern entertainment.

The month starts in style with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra (Sunday 1 May) performing Three, which includes the UK  premières of a trio of exciting pieces and features the breathtaking  Céline Forrest. The stunning soprano represented Wales last year in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, and five sensational singers will now be battling out for the same honour in next year’s finals in the Welsh Singer Competition (Wednesday 25 May) accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Classical fans are in for a treat with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra (Tuesday 17 May), whilst the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (Sunday 15 May) performs The Best of Ten Pieces. Furthermore, there are three captivating Lunchtime Concerts with the Erato Piano Trio (Tuesday 3 May) and the Artesian Quartet (Tuesday 10 May), whilst dynamic duo Lowri Porter & Lada Valešová (Tuesday 31 May) deliver a powerful programme of Beethoven, Messiaen and Janáček.

Jason Donovan – Friday 6 May, 7.30pm

We’ve also got 80s pop icon Jason Donovan (Friday 6 May) performing a greatest hits set and his classic album Ten Good Reasons in its entirety. Plus, names don’t come much bigger in the music world than Brian Wilson (Wednesday 18 May), who performs the legendary Beach Boys album Pet Sounds in full. If you didn’t book early though, you’ll be left disappointed as this special show sold out months ago!

But if you prefer your rock music with the amps turned up to 11, you’ll love Killer Queen (Saturday 21 May) where you can relive the incredible energy of Freddie Mercury’s shows. Plus, for the ultimate nostalgic trip down memory lane there’s the 30th anniversary of That’ll Be The Day (Thursday 26 May) featuring classic comedy and music from the 50s, 60s and 70s!

Craig Campbell – Tuesday 3 May, 8pm

If you fancy having a laugh, crazy Canadian Craig Campbell (Tuesday 3 May) brings his madcap manner to the L3 Lounge, whilst the West End smash-hit Graeme of Thrones (Sunday 8 May) provides a rip-roaring ride through the Seven Kingdoms! Talking of the West End, a superb selection of singers who have appeared as the main character Jean Valjean in Les Misérables will join together in aid of the Welsh Hearts charity in the Bring Him Home Gala Concert (Sunday 22 May).

Graeme of Thrones – Sunday 8 May, 7.30pm

There’s something for folk fans too as the legendary father and daughter duo of Martin & Eliza Carthy (Tuesday 31 May) perform side-by-side as part of the Roots Unearthed series. And if you’re still after something a bit different, The Dreamboys (Friday 27 May) return with their hottest show yet!

Overall, you can’t go wrong with tickets to St David’s Hall throughout May!
