Edwards Coaches of Pontypridd have stepped in to rescue the Pembrokeshire based Silcox Coach company which is about to be placed into administration. All former Silcox “home to school” transport routes will be operated by Edwards after the half term break.
Edwards Coaches is the largest family owned coach company in the country employing over 500 staff and operating 260 vehicles. They currently operate National Express coaches from Haverfordwest departing daily to Cardiff, Heathrow, Gatwick London and various other destinations. Transportation is also provided for over 8000 students to school or college each day from bus depots all over South Wales. Additionally the Edwards’ “Red Dragon” coach is the official carrier of the Wales Rugby Team which is often seen on TV.
Edwards Coaches also operate their hugely popular Coach Holiday company which transports over 80,000 passengers each year to destinations across the UK and Europe.
Ironically in a turn of fate the Edwards family left their family home in Llamphey, Pembrokeshire to find employment in the Rhondda Valley over a hundred years ago. The current Managing Director Mike Edwards said he has traced his roots from Castle Martin via Bosherston and Llamphey. His research suggests he still has distant relatives living in the Pembrokeshire area.
