Independent charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for an arson attack on a charity premises in Bettws, Newport.
The incident occurred on Wednesday 21st December 2016, with firefighters from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service called to the blaze on an allotment site in Itchen Road, Bettws, at around 6.20pm.
The blaze was out over an hour later, but the charity affected, Roots @Bettws project, which provides disabled people with gardening training, is now in jeopardy of closing due to the damage.
This is the second time the charity has been targeted, with its premises raided in December 2015, which saw £1,000 stolen.
Now, Crimestoppers is offering the reward of up to £5,000 for information passed to the charity that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for this arson attack. Information given to the police will not qualify for the reward.
Ella Rabaiotti, Crimestoppers Regional Manager for Wales, said: “It’s heartbreaking to think this charity may not be able to function because of this heartless and callous attack on their premises.
“I’d appeal to anyone who has any information on this attack to contact Crimestoppers anonymously, safe in the knowledge nobody will know you contacted us. Please, do the right thing by your community and tell us what you know, not who you are.”
