Alzheimer’s Society’s Carols at Christmas brings festive cheer to Cardiff

23/11/2017

A magical evening of festive music is being held in Cardiff to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru.

Carols at Christmas will be hosted by Capital Breakfast’s Polly James and will take place at St John the Baptist Church on Tuesday 12 December 2017 at 6.30pm (doors open at 6.00pm) with traditional festive songs, readings and delicious winter treats.

Highlights will include musical performances from Plasmawr Brass Ensemble, Pontypridd Male Voice Choir, Leanne Jay Brookes, Jaqueline Ayres and One Voice Gospel Choir. There will also be plenty of well-known sing-along songs that everyone can join in with.

The event will be ‘dementia-friendly’ with stewards on hand who have taken part in Dementia Friends information sessions and there will be clear signs in the venue to help people find their way around.

Cheryl George, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru in South East Wales said: “We’re delighted to be holding our carol concert for the second year running in the historic and beautiful setting of St John the Baptist church.

We’re hoping people will bring along the whole family for what promises to be a truly uplifting evening.

“By coming together to unite against dementia, participants will be helping to increase awareness of a condition that is set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer and could affect us all.

“There are 850,000 people with the condition in the UK, including over 4,000 people with dementia in Cardiff. The Welsh city recently committed to becoming a Dementia Friendly Capital on World Alzheimer’s Day and you can play your part in helping the city achieve this.”

Tickets for the event cost £10.00 for an adult, £6.00 for a child (under 9 years of age) and £14.00 for a combined ticket for a person with dementia and their carer.

All proceeds will help Alzheimer’s Society Cymru to continue to provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.
