Music fans from across the UK will be making their way to the Dolls House, Abertillery on 23 March to enjoy a day of rock while raising funds for Mencap. The event has been organised by Rock & Roll Circus Events, working with Steph Rogers of Mencap.
Steph said “I’m excited to be teaming up with Ceri Davies and Paul Cairns from The Rock & Roll Circus Events in hosting a local fundraising event for Mencap. I’ve worked for Mencap over 16 plus years and manage services in Blaenau Gwent. The work we do definitely changes lives and we are able to offer lots of opportunities and choice to people with a learning disability which has supported people to have greater independence and control in their lives. Personally, I’d like to thank Ceri and Paul for supporting Mencap and also for all the great work that they do for charity.””
Seven bands will be appearing at the event, representing a wide area of the UK as well as providing a platform for local talent. “The entrance cost is just £4” said Ceri Davies “a small price to pay to enjoy such a range of bands, and knowing that all proceeds will be going to an important cause.”
Headlining the day is Mansfield-based Witch Tripper, a rock crowd favourite whose fierce live reputation was reinforced with a blistering show at HRH Metal at the 02 Birmingham recently. Bass player Stoff said “We cannot wait to come back to the Dolls House. It’s been a few years since we first played there and to be asked to headline is an absolute honour, especially to raise money for such a worthy charity”.
One band representing the local scene is Pontypool’s Who Knows Didley?, who have developed their own style and sound in their set of self-written songs. “It’s great to be asked to join forces with such a great line-up at the Dolls House for this Mencap event. We’ve been fortunate to have played there a few times last year and thoroughly enjoyed every minute” commented lead guitarist Gareth Allford “It’ll be an exciting night for us as we should be showcasing a new band member…watch this space!! Looking forward to what should be a great event and a great chance to make some more new friends.”
