Rising Welsh operatic star Angharad Lyddon returns to Cardiff to sing in Mendelssohn’s great oratorio Elijah. It follows her success in reaching the Song Prize final in this year’s BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, when she represented Wales.
She joins an impressive line-up of performers. Berlin’s visiting Sinfonie Orchester Schöneberg is conducted by Raphael Haeger. A choir of over 150 singers brings together three leading Welsh choirs – Cardiff Ardwyn Singers, Cardiff Polyphonic Choir, and Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society – with a team of Welsh soloists.
Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah is one of the very greatest of all oratorios, full of drama and thrilling music. It is not to be missed.
The orchestra is touring Wales, sponsored by Germany’s Goethe Institut, with a further performance of Elijah in St Davids Cathedral, Pembrokeshire, on Saturday 12 October. The orchestra and the three choirs then move to Berlin for a final performance on 27 October in the city’s Philharmonie, home of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
