Techniquest has been a part of Cardiff for nearly 34 years — engaging its visitors with interactive shows, hands-on exhibits and unique workshops; all with a connection to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Techniquest is the place to go for those out-of-the-ordinary experiences. Whether you sit back and admire the galaxies in space from its 360° Planetarium; check out a workshop session in their Lab facility; or even party the night away at their special After Hours events, Techniquest offers a broad range of activities — which are soon to be evolving.
With the global outbreak of Covid-19 reaching the UK; Techniquest has temporarily closed its doors under Government guidance but has introduced an exciting new approach to engage school kids (and parents!) with STEM learning during this time.
Techniquest have launched a mini-series of both DIY science experiments and educational pieces for anyone to engage with from home. The short-film videos, known as #TQatHome demonstrate a range of science trivia and mind-boggling experiments, which include building your own Lava Lamp, freezing bouncy balls, and even what happens when Techniquest host their very own Liquid Nitrogen Tea Party.
The videos of course come with a special message: support now and visit later.
Like many, there will be financial strain on the business during UK lockdown. You might not know it, but Techniquest is a charity organisation. The closure has meant Techniquest has also had to postpone the opening of its highly anticipated Science Capital [https://www.techniquest.org/about-us/the-science-capital/] project — a brand-new extension to the already existing building, which will introduce over 50 new exhibits, including a Virtual Operating Table and an Earthquake Simulator. Whilst you may have to wait a little longer than expected, you can buy a voucher now and secure your slot for when the brand-new Techniquest officially opens later in the year.
