Rock Powerhouses pair up for charity single ‘Through Thick And Thin’ (I’ll Stand By You) in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust

Bridgend’s Natasha Powell joins rock legends Bonnie Tyler and Lorraine Crosby as they join forces to raise funds for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust.

The pair come together for the release of their new single ‘Through Thick And Thin’ (I’ll Stand By You), on Friday 15th May. Natasha, supported by the charity at its Cardiff unit at the University Hospital Wales, is one of seven young people, that appear in the music video for the track.

The song is a rousing ballad that will bring the nation together during lockdown, with the lyrics having particular resonance during these times. But the song is also dedicated to the essential support that Teenage Cancer Trust offers across the UK to young people, like Natasha, with cancer.

Natasha Powell, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, said:

“It was absolutely amazing to be able to dip my toe into the world of music – it’s every young person’s dream – and to do it alongside these with two iconic artists is just out of this world.

“Living with cancer is tough. You don’t feel like you and you often feel alone. Going through cancer whilst the world deals with the Coronavirus pandemic adds an extra layer of emotion and the feeling of isolation is magnified. But Teenage Cancer Trust has been there for me through thick and thin, helping move beyond the obstacles Coronavirus has placed along the way. They understand me and have been here for me.

“Buying this single will allow Teenage Cancer Trust to continue to offer this support. So download and enjoy the track and make a difference to so many young people like me with cancer, now in the future.”

Tyler, who catapulted to worldwide fame with hits ‘Holding Out For A Hero’ and ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ is lifelong friend of Crosby, female duet partner on the 1993 Meatloaf classic ‘I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).

Each day, seven young people aged 13-24 yrs hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Teenage Cancer Trust’s specialist nurses, support teams, and hospital units work within the NHS to provide young people with expert care and support, throughout their cancer treatment and beyond.  At the moment, many are working alongside NHS colleagues to respond to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Tyler and Crosby’s support for the Teenage Cancer Trust comes as the charity’s flagship annual week of fundraising shows at the Royal Albert Hall, bringing together artists and comedians to perform over 7 days and set to raise more than £1million, had to be cancelled in March due to the Coronavirus.

Bonnie Tyler commented:

“I couldn’t be more proud of my friend Lorraine’s idea of releasing this duet that we recorded years ago for Teenage Cancer Trust, and I’m happy for her to do so. I hope this single can help them to continue being there, through thick and thin.

”The lyrics say it all for right now, we all need to support each other through difficult times. If anyone needs a hero now, it’s young people with cancer. They’re going through some of the toughest moments of their lives, and support from Teenage Cancer Trust’s nurses and youth support teams is needed more than ever. Through thick and thin.”

Kate Collins, Chief Executive at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:

”We can’t thank Bonnie and Lorraine enough for their support. Cancer isn’t stopping for Coronavirus and neither is Teenage Cancer Trust – right now young people with cancer are feeling more isolated than ever and they’ve never needed us more.

“We rely on donations for all our work and our income this year could drop by as much as 50%. We’ve launched an urgent fundraising appeal so we can raise the £5m needed so we can continue our work in 2020. Thank you to Bonnie and Lorraine for standing by us, as we do for young people with cancer for as long as they need us.”

‘Through Thick And Thin’ (I’ll Stand By You), released by AWAL/Kobalt, is available from 15th May on iTunes and all digital platforms. 100% of all profits will go to Teenage Cancer Trust.
