The pandemic has been a particularly difficult time for the charity sector, with planned fundraising activities cancelled resulting in a terrible knock on effect to much needed income to fund services for those most vulnerable. This is so true for local charity, Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, who have seen an increasing demand for their services among isolated older people (helping to fight loneliness, and shopping/prescription requests, etc).
As a local business wanting to give back and proactively do something to help this situation, the team at Liberty Marketing, Wales largest dedicated digital marketing agency, decided to host a raffle on the charity’s behalf. “Liberty’s BIG Feastival” – the foodie raffle is now live!
For just £3 an entry, you could be in with a chance of winning one of five delicious foodie bundles. All sourced from community focused suppliers such as Brother Thai, Dusty Knuckle, Franks Hotdogs, Graze And Thyme, Heaney’s, Heavy Hand Bakes, Kin & Ilk, Lucinda’s Kitchen, Matsudai Ramen, Puckin Poutine, Street Food Warehouse, The Bearded Tacos, The Dough Thrower, The Juboraj and The Welsh Picnic Pantry.
Since the start of the Coronavirus lockdown, Age Connects Cardiff & the Vale has taken over 3,600 calls for information, advice and reassurance and many clients are called weekly to maintain social contact. The charity has also responded to the shopping and prescription delivery needs of 300 new clients.
Eighty-year-old Trevor and his wife Ann have been supported by Amanda, one of Age Connects’ newest volunteers. Trevor explains: “We feel unbelievably lucky to have met Amanda and to have her support, and that of Age Connects, even though it has been under the most difficult circumstances. Totally reliable, Amanda is always so cheerful and full of beans. She always shows real concern for our welfare, not just helping us with our shopping, but ringing us up during the week just to say hello and to check how we are doing”.
The charity’s Marketing and Partnership Manager, Karen Steele, continues: “Support from local businesses is vital to our success at this difficult time and moving forward. As a local charity we are so grateful to fellow Cardiff and Vale based organisations such as Liberty Marketing wanting to give back at grassroots level. The money raised from their fantastic Feastival Raffle will all be invested straight back into the work we are carrying out supporting thousands of vulnerable and isolated older people”.
Emily Benwell, Brand Manager at Liberty Marketing who created this initiative added “We are thrilled to be able to help Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale. Over the years the team at Liberty have reached out to this local charity, with some of our team becoming volunteers, assisting with digital marketing expertise and fundraising. We can see first-hand the vital work they do and are proud to be a part of this.”
