Children at Gabalfa Primary School were treated to an Assembly going behind the scenes of film, games and TV and a special presenting masterclass, hosted by Ben Shires and Kia Pegg, which aimed to boost students’ confidence and creativity.
The Roadshow exists to champion children’s creativity and teach important life skills through film, games, and television. The activities on offer provide access to talent to raise awareness and provide positive, inspiring role models within the industry as well as signposting the potential careers on offer in the industry and encouraging and increasing the diversity of young people interested in a career in arts and media.
Each roadshow includes a variety of interactive elements, including competitions and round table discussions, classroom meet and greets, as well as a television and presenting masterclass.

BAFTA has been partnering with Place2Be since 2016. The Roadshow will visit 7 Place2Be schools across the UK this year.
Ben Shires, presenter of Sky Kids’ Dig Detectives, said: “I am thrilled to be back for another BAFTA Roadshow. It’s always one of the highlights of my job and Gabalfa Primary School was so welcoming! Pupils were very enthusiastic and keen to learn about the creative world of film, games and TV. There’s a lot of talent in Cardiff!”
Kia Pegg, actress in CBBC’s The Dumping Ground, said: “Visiting Gabalfa Primary School Cardiff has been brilliant, and I have loved every minute of my first BAFTA Roadshow with Place2Be. The pupils were really engaged, and there was a lot of creative potential. I can’t wait to see them all achieve great things in the future.”
Carrie Jenkins, Headteacher, Gabalfa Primary School, said: “Gabalfa Primary School have been a Place2Be partner school for 10 years, so it has been wonderful to host the BAFTA Roadshow for the first time this year. The children had a great experience, and it was a positive day for all! We love having Place2Be on site and hope to be able to continue to support the wellbeing of our children, families and staff members.”
