Principality staff help stop people going hungry in Cardiff  Staff from Principality Building Society took time out of work to volunteer at Cardiff Foodbank and help stop people going hungry. Seven employees from Wales’ largest building society spent a day sorting and packing food at Cardiff Foodbank, which supports thousands of families that are in need of emergency food parcels. Over 7,500 adults and children in Cardiff received emergency food parcels from Cardiff Foodbank in 2013 and this year that…

Our world is constantly changing, whether it is to do with fashion trends or the design of houses, I put this transformation purely down to one thing- technology. Children then:                                                            Children now:    My parent’s lives at the age of 10 are non-existent to 10 year olds today. Lemonade stands, building tree houses and playing out on the streets seem to be blasts from the past because in contemporary society, children are become less sociable by the day. Statistics show…

A Cardiff mum whose employer’s ‘practise what you preach’ attitude to workplace training helped her get back into full-time employment is calling on Welsh businesses to make every week Adult Learners Week at their own place of work.  Anita Page was a full-time mum for 13 years before returning to study for a NVQ in IT at the age of 35 and hasn’t stopped learning since, after the organisation that delivered the course offered her a full-time position as a…

This weekend Cardiff Times were lucky enough to be invited to Cardiff’s brand new trendy bar Ten Mill Lane for a cocktail fuelled evening.  The bar is located on the busy Mill Lane (number 10 funnily enough). It is squeezed in between clubs such as Retros and Soda, but Ten Mill Lane offers a completely different vibe to the normal Cardiff nightlife. Their slogan is ‘You are welcome’ and that is exactly how the staff, venue and other cocktail lovers…

On Saturday, Splott Market was transformed into a festival haven and invaded by keen party goers ready to get colourful. A couple of months ago rumours began that Cardiff was going to play host to this retro warehouse rave, and since then the excitement has been steadily building. On the 14th June the festival focused on the celebration of happiness through exploding colours and pumping music arrived in Cardiff for the first time. Ravers turned out in the masses for a…

It’s June and the sun still isn’t in sight for longer than two days- hello? Weather? We are still waiting for our heat wave! I’m lucky to have olive skin but my goodness this is probably the most pale I have ever been…. Everything seems to be weather dependent these days whether it is to earn money or simply to have a bit fun, so I have come up with a few ideas to get your summer rolling, no matter…

If Dad will be getting on the dance floor this Father’s Day then you probably want to avoid him at all costs! Dad might think he’s rad but we think he’s bad… So if he thinks he can pull off a groove… then we suggest you give him these guidelines to make things just that little bit more bearable for you – and everyone else! The Smooth Criminal Beat it Dad. The way you make me feel…

On 2nd May, as part of MS Week, I shaved off my shoulder-length, blonde hair to raise funds for the MS Society Cymru. I work for Principality Building Society.  Each year, my colleagues and I get to nominate and vote for a Charity of the Year, then we put all our fundraising efforts towards the chosen charity for a whole year. For 2014, my colleagues and I chose the MS Society Cymru and we’re hoping to raise a substantial amount of money…

John Godber first presented the show ‘Bouncers’ in 1984 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since then, many productions all over the UK have been shown with a revised 1990s theme. Queue the cheesy 90s music, Nicky Campbell hosting Radio 1 instead of ‘Long Lost Family’ and DJs with microphones who think they’re hilarious. The play itself revolves around four bouncers on the door of a nightclub and the kind of customers they’ll come across throughout the night. Just four actors…

Hollywood Ending is a pop-rock band formed in the summer of 2011. They earned their first break on Season 4 of Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing competition finishing in 3rd place. Since then, Hollywood Ending has already toured the US, Canada and parts of Europe and I got the chance to see them perform while supporting McBusted at the end of May. Before the band actually came on stage, a video was shown on the big screen of the band…
