ST DAVID’S HALL presents three magical performances of La Fille Mal Gardée for the first time from Tuesday 20 – Wednesday 21 December.
Performed by the Russian State Ballet & Orchestra of Siberia and recreated from Alexander Gorsky’s classic version, this gentle tale of love thwarted, unrequited and found is one of the oldest ballets is still regularly performed.
It is a masterpiece of comedy full of ribbons, romance and rivalry, and conjures up a world of pastoral simplicity where a farm boy woos a flirty farmer’s daughter. In the throes of young love, they find increasingly inventive ways to avoid her mother.
Loosely translated from the French, the title is The Wayward Daughter and is inspired by a 1789 painting by Pierre-Antoine Baudouin. The ballet was premiered late that year at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux.
Complete with maypole and clog dances, this classic ballet will send you home full of cheer and warm of heart.
