Despite the on-going situation surrounding the Covid-19 crisis, the management team at what will be the new Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill in Swansea have started looking to recruit staff to work in the new restaurant.

Located in J Shed, in the SA1 area of the city, the plan is to open the new venue later in the year once the lockdown restrictions have been eased.

And as the final details are put in place and work starts to convert the building, the search is now on to find the best staff that that will make diners and drinkers’ experience second-to-none while helping to boost local employment.

Creating in the region of 40 full and part time jobs, the new restaurant is offering a number of roles including a variety of chef positions along with restaurant manager and assorted waiting and bar staff.

Those who put themselves forward and are chosen will then be put through a rigorous training programme that will see them brought up to speed on the exacting standards required by the three-starred Michelin maestro.

David Bellis, co-owner said: “The arrival of a Marco Pierre White restaurant in Swansea is great news for the city and we’re expecting a lot of interest from those keen to gain experience of working in an environment created by Britain’s greatest ever chef.

“The standard required will be very high and those who think they’ve got what it takes have to be totally dedicated, professional and will want to strive to be the best in all they do. There is a mix of roles from senior positions such as head chef and restaurant manager to restaurant staff who will create the personality of the restaurant.”

Regarded as the godfather of modern cooking, the gastronomic great is famed for his no-nonsense approach. He was also the key influence to both Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blementhal who were both trained by and worked for Marco.

Occupying a prime position overlooking Swansea’s waterside, the new restaurant will include approximately 130 dedicated internal covers. The exciting plans offer a newly configured bar and lounge, as well as an external drinking and dining area wrapped around the entire property. A private dining area will also be available for hire, with an exclusive external terrace.

Steve Lewis, the venue’s other co-owner added: “In the current climate, this is great news from an employment point of view and will go towards helping boost the local economy.

“Also, because we want to hit the ground running once the social distancing rules have been relaxed, we will start interviewing candidates using video conferencing communications such as Zoom. Those thinking about applying will therefore need to think about how they might present themselves on this sort of platform and we can’t wait to start meeting those who will make up the team.

“For example any chefs might want to chat from their kitchen so they can demonstrate some of their skills and understanding of ingredients while those considering a front of house role will want to present themselves almost as if they are welcoming customers.

“The location is also perfect, being right in the heart of the SA1 area of the city, and completely captures Marco’s ethos of creating a venue where friends and family can come to enjoy drinks and food in relaxed, comfortable and unpretentious setting.”
