Swan Lake
St David’s Hall
Tuesday 29 December – Sunday 3 January
(excluding 1 January)
2pm, 5.30pm & 7pm
If you’ve never experienced the mesmerising magic of a ballet before, then Swan Lake is definitely the one to see at St David’s Hall!
This captivating ballet comes to the National Concert Hall of Wales for eight performances from Tuesday 29 December – Sunday 3 January at 2pm, 5.30pm and 7pm (excluding Friday 1 January).
Tchaikovsky originally wrote this breath-taking ballet to entertain his nieces during the summer of 1871. Yet, it was only when the Imperial Theatre in Moscow commissioned a full-length ballet that he remembered he had already started one. Swan Lake went on to become perhaps the most desired performance to see live, and the greatest romantic ballet of all time.
The dual role of the white and black swans is one of ballet’s most unmissable technical challenges. Some say it’s the ‘Holy Grail’ for ballerinas, and to be cast as the two main characters is one of the highest honours for a ballet dancer; not least because it’s so difficult to perform!
Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s instantly recognisable score, this magical tale tells the story of the beautiful princess Odette, who is turned into a swan by a sorcerer’s evil curse. Only love can reverse the spell. Will Odette find her handsome prince?
The exquisite costumes, ornate set designs and amazing acoustics at St David’s Hall aren’t the only things that will delight you – our great prices for the whole family will too! Children’s tickets for Under 16s are 50% off all performances, starting at just £7.50* for matinees and £8* for late afternoon and early evening performances. There’s also an amazingly good value deal for two adults and two children Under 16 to attend any matinee starting at just £41*, and £45* for any late afternoon or early evening shows.
The majesty of the ballroom and the moonlit scene where the swans glide in perfect formation are truly the most sensational sights in ballet. Experience the grandeur of Swan Lake at St David’s Hall!
