WELSH SUMMARY In April, footfall numbers in Wales were 3.6% lower than a year ago, down from the 1.7% fall in March 2015. The vacancy rate in Wales was 12.7%, a sharp decline from 15.5% in the previous quarter UK Summary Footfall in April was 0.8% lower than a year ago, down from the 0.2% rise in March. The Wales women’s over-35s team defeated England, Scotland and Ireland to win the Four Nations title at the Bolton Arena. The team comprised Ellen Jones, of the XL Academy/ Cardiff Metropolitan University; Linda Jones, who is a coach at David Lloyd, Finchley; and Carys Rees, a coach at Abergavenny. Aspiring Welsh tennis players enjoyed success in early pre-season tournaments nationally and internationally across various age groups. At the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event in Malta, Welsh U18s had a week to remember. Cardiff-based Matt Story reached the semi-finals in the male singles while Ricky Tong, also from Cardiff, secured a well-earned place in the quarter-finals. It’s taken a decade but a skittles team from Cardiff have finally clinched  another major skittles title.  The team, called Norfolk n Chance, travelled to Weymouth in Dorset where they beat off opposition in the form of 11 teams from Ross on Wye, Calne, Gloucester, Penarth, Stroud, Cardiff, Weston Super Mare and Bristol to win the weekend tournament.  The team, renown for their chanting, did enough to get through to the finals but weren’t expecting to win. ‘We didn’t have…

Paul Jenkins – coach of the Invictus Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby team and South Wales Pirates – has been rewarded for his career as a Wheelchair Rugby Coach.   A former Welsh Guards Instructor, Jenkins had a motorbike crash after he left the military, leaving him tetraplegic.  In 1990 he took up wheelchair rugby and quickly became hooked, forging a successful sports career where he competed in the 1996 Paralympic Games.
