LEGENDARY Lancashire rock group The Hollies are set to take St David’s Hall by storm this Sunday (26 April) with a night of huge hits.
At the height of the Swinging 60s, the group dominated the pop music scene with a staggering 231 weeks in the UK charts throughout the decade. They are one of the few British bands of the early 1960s that have never officially split up, and they continue to captivate worldwide audiences. Deservedly, they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 for their services to music.
The Hollies released their first album way back in 1964 and although the record peaked at No.2, it was in the singles charts that they really found their niche with a string of perfect pop tunes. After establishing initial popularity via cover versions, they subsequently honed the art of songwriting by penning their own classics such as Bus Stop, On A Carousel and The Air I Breathe.
Yet, chart-toppers like I’m Alive and He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother consolidated their status as British rock royalty. In the case of the latter, the single even reached No.1 twice in 1969 and 1988. Plus, it reached the top of the charts for an unprecedented third time when The Hollies collaborated with Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and Liverpool FC legends as ‘The Justice Collective.’ The proceeds from this re-recorded version went to various charities associated with the Hillsborough disaster, and landed the prestigious Christmas No.1 slot in 2012.
The Hollies’ three-part harmonies, jangly guitars and marvellous melodies are instantly recognisable. Relive their stunning back catalogue live at St David’s Hall!
Limited tickets are still available priced £26.50 and £29.50 (plus a £2.95 ticket service charge per transaction).
