The Royal Mint has launched an interactive ‘Kid’s Hub’ to help entertain and educate children at home – with the help of coins you’d find in your pocket
The free resource is available on The Royal Mint’s website and provides a host of quizzes, games and educational tools – brought to life through iconic coins, and popular children’s characters such as The Gruffalo and Wallace & Gromit.
Each week The Royal Mint will introduce new free downloadable packs to support families and children. The first subject will be Maths, encouraging children to count with coins, learn more about the circumference and diameters of UK currency and also the science behind the shape of coins such as the 50p.
Future subjects will include Literacy, Science, Art and Design, Design and Technology, Geography and History with each downloadable pack featuring coins as a starting point from which pupils can learn about these essential everyday items in their pockets.
In addition to the free educational resources, The Royal Mint has also collated a range of fun games featuring some of the nation’s best loved children’s characters. Visitors to the site will be able to help Peter Rabbit catch the all-important golden radish, build a rocket with Wallace & Gromit or design and colour their very own coin.
Clare Maclennan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said: “As the nation rallies together to support one another during these challenging times, we wanted to play our part to support families and engage all those who find themselves at home.
“We hope our interactive ‘Kid’s Hub’ will help entertain and educate children as they spend time at home together. We’ve pulled a host of quizzes, games and educational tools to life through iconic coins, and popular children’s characters such as The Gruffalo and Wallace & Gromit. It’s ideal for families and children looking to fill their time with fun and factual activities”.
The new Royal Mint Online Kids Hub includes:
- Colour-in Paddington Coins
- Design your own 50p coin
- Peter Rabbit ‘Catch the Radish’ interactive game
- Wallace & Gromit colour-in coins

The Royal Mint Museum already provides a host of educational support to schools across the UK, and over 50,000 schoolchildren visit The Royal Mint Experience in South Wales for interactive sessions each year.
