Vulnerable young people still need you amid the Coronavirus outbreak

10/04/2020

At times like this, it can be very difficult to notice situations outside of our own circumstances. We are now all in lockdown and practising self-isolation however, the need for Foster Carers continues to rise and the current global situation does not change that.

There are still young people coming in to care who need the opportunity to live in a healthy, loving home with healthy boundaries and emotional support.

At this current time, there is also a lot of concern among households that are experiencing the possibility of redundancies and being out of work. Understandably you might be looking to see what other careers might be better suited to a ‘working from home’ lifestyle.

As a Foster Carer, you will have the flexibility of working from home and the security of knowing that Foster Carers are needed all your round, even amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Foster Care agencies like Calon Cymru Fostering are taking extra measures to ensure that they are still able to recruit new Foster Carers while conforming with the new safety measures being put into place by the Government.

Sharon Cavaliere, Director of Calon Cymru Fostering shared:

“I have been so impressed by the way that our teams have pulled together to continue to keep children and young people safe and secure. Please be assured our Social Work teams see Carer support as a priority. If we continue to provide a high level of support our Foster Carers then the children and young people in our care will remain supported and safe.”

In response to the support that Foster Carers are still receiving Calon Cymru Foster Carer Hannah Jones share:

“It’s been so nice receiving that friendly call from the office it sure has made us feel we are in their thoughts.”

Thanks to a wealth of technology available, being able to meet virtually has proven to be very beneficial for several organisations, including those in within Foster Care. Calon Cymru Fostering has assured us that their recruitment and training is still going ahead as usual, just in a different way. This ensures that the safety of everyone involved comes first, whilst allowing Foster Carers to be able to receive all the training and support necessary for supporting young people.

There are many different types of Foster Care to consider and each type has its own personalised set of training and support that can be carried out from home.

Sharon from Calon also share with us “ We continue to receive enquiries to become a Foster Carer – many people feeling they have something to offer during these difficult times. If you are interested, then please get in touch, our team would welcome a conversation with you.”
